Meet Our Management Team:

Marie Hren
Co-Founder/Director, NRS
Occupational Therapist, Case Manager, Certified Life Care Planner

Marie Hren graduated with a diploma in Occupational Therapy from the University of Manitoba in 1973, and later received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto.  In 1980, she obtained her certification in Neurodevelopmental Therapy, and in 2011, she achieved certification as a Canadian Life Care Planner through the International Commission on Health Care Certification.

Marie has worked with adults and children with neurological, medical, orthopedic, chronic pain, and psychological conditions, and has worked extensively with individuals with acquired brain injury, initially in a hospital-based rehabilitation setting, and since 1985 in home, school, workplace and community settings.  She co-founded NRS in 1987.

Marie has lectured on various topics related to brain injury rehabilitation to occupational and physical therapy students at the University of Toronto and Queens University, and presented at local and national brain injury conferences and symposia.  In addition to managing NRS, she continues to provide direct Occupational Therapy, Case Management and Life Care Planning services.

Harriette Brown
Co-Founder/Director, NRS
Occupational Therapist, Case Manager

Harriette Brown graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Western Ontario in 1981.

Harriette has worked extensively with adults and children with traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions, complex orthopedic injuries, chronic pain and psychological conditions, initially working in hospital-based rehabilitation settings in Toronto and Israel, and since 1985 in home, school, workplace and community settings.  Together with Marie Hren, she founded Neuro-Rehab Services Inc. in 1987.

Harriette’s research experience includes standardizing the Riverdale Hospital Home & Community Skills Assessment tool.  She has lectured on various topics related to brain injury rehabilitation to occupational therapy students at the University of Toronto, and has presented at brain injury conferences and workshops.   In addition to managing NRS, she continues to provide direct Occupational Therapy and Case Management services.

Patricia Howell
Manager Development and Communications,
Occupational Therapist, Case Manager, Certified Life Care Planner

Patricia graduated with a B.Sc.O.T. (Occupational Therapy) from Queen’s University in 1982 and subsequently completed a Masters in Business Administration at York University in 1990.  In 2011, she achieved certification as a Canadian Life Care Planner, through the International Commission on Health Care Certification.

Patricia has worked in various acute care and rehabilitation facilities, including (now named) Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital where she worked in the area of pediatric neurology.  Since joining NRS in 1995 she has provided community based Case Management and Occupational Therapy services for adults and children with acquired brain injury and other serious injuries.  Patricia’s experience also includes program management, clinical research, staff and intern supervision and organizing, chairing and presenting at major symposia.  As Manager of Development and Communications at NRS, she is also responsible for ensuring that the company is responding to the needs of its various community partners. 

Patricia is also one of the founding Board Members of the Alliance of Community Medical and Rehabilitation Providers and is currently actively involved a number of initiatives aimed at improving access to benefits and supports for the seriously injured.

Trisha Cooke
Intake Coordinator
Case Manager, Registered Massage Therapist

Trisha Cooke graduated with a Diploma in Massage Therapy from Sir Sanford Fleming College in 1998, and a Bachelor of Health Studies (Honours) from York University in 2005. 

Trisha has worked in a variety of rehabilitation settings including hospitals and community based agencies, providing massage therapy to children and adults with neurological and/or orthopedic injuries.  Trisha joined NRS in 2005, initially as a massage therapist, Rehab Coach and Assistant Rehab Coach Program Manager.  In 2009, Trisha moved into a Case Management role with NRS and has been working extensively with adults and children with brain injury, burns, spinal cord injury, amputations and complex orthopedic and chronic pain conditions.   Since 2009, she has also been working as NRS’s Clinical Intake Coordinator. Jodi Harendorf
B.A.(Psych); CCRC; CCLCP; CVRP

Jodi Harendorf graduated in April 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University and a Certificate in Rehabilitation Services from the York-Seneca Rehabilitation Services Program. She achieved the designations of Registered Rehabilitation Professional through the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, and Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor through the Commission of Rehabilitation Counsellors, in 1992, and was granted membership to The College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals in February 2011. She obtained her designation as a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner through Carlton University and the Commission on Health Care Certification in 2005, and has maintained these certifications through the successful completion of continuing education hours.

In 1995, Jodi founded Catastrophic Injury Management which she managed, and over the years established as a well-known and respected Life Care Planning, Case Management and Rehabilitation company, offering the highest quality services to pediatric, adult and geriatric populations across Ontario and into other provinces.

Jodi joined NRS in 2019, bringing over 30 years experience providing Future Cost of Care/Life Care Planning services and Case Management services to the insurance and legal industry, with a specialized expertise in managing paediatric, adult and geriatric catastrophic cases, including those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, mental health trauma, complicated orthopedic injuries, burns, chronic pain and bodily scarring.

Terry Ginzburg
B.A., B.Sc.(OT), OT Reg. (Ont.)
Occupational Therapist

Terry is an Occupational Therapist registered to practice by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. She graduated with a B.Sc. (OT) from the University of Toronto in 1985. Her 30 years clinical experience includes hospital based Occupational Assessment and Therapy (including Baycrest Center for Geriatric Care, North York General Psychiatry Unit, and Chimes Israel Program for Developmentally Delayed Adults). She has also worked extensively in the community with individuals with complex challenges (e.g. Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Complex Orthopedic injuries, Mild Cognitive Impairment and Psychological/Psychiatric Conditions), providing home, life skills and vocational assessments and programming. Terry is a member of the Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists and has extensive training in the area of driver assessment, training and vehicle modifications. She brings a wealth of knowledge related to specific driver strategies for special populations (e.g. students with cognitive and social limitations). She has helped 100’s of individuals to be safe and competent behind the wheel.

Meet our Pain Management Medical Consultant:

Dr. Steve Arthur Blitzer
MD, DAAPM, DCAPM

NRS is pleased to welcome Dr. Steve Blitzer as our pain management consultant. Dr. Blitzer started his medical career in Emergency Medicine, managing acute trauma cases at various hospitals in Canada and the United States. For the past 20 years, he has managed a consultative medical practice, with a special interest in trauma, sports medicine, and pain management and rehabilitation, and is a Certified Pain Management Physician, with Diplomate Certification through both the American and Canadian Academies of Pain Management. He is also staff physician for two headache and chronic pain clinics.

Dr. Blitzer is also a member of the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators and has extensive experience providing Independent Medical Assessments and Consultations within the Ontario Auto Insurance System. He has also done assessments and case reviews for the Workers’ Compensation Board of Ontario. His thorough, comprehensive evaluations and reports provide an expert opinion on each patient’s status, diagnoses and multiple approaches to treatment and rehabilitation.

As consultant to NRS, Dr. Blitzer’s role includes reviewing each client’s interacting medical problems, completing a comprehensive assessment, arranging for any diagnostic procedures as indicated, addressing issues of diagnoses and causation, and providing a detailed pain management medical and rehabilitation plan. In addition to providing ongoing medical follow up, including medication review and management and other therapeutic procedures such as injections, he works closely with the rehab team to ensure each client has access to a comprehensive multi-disciplinary rehab program designed to meet their specific needs.
