BACK IN ACTION!
A Social Skills Group for Young Adults Living With the Effects of Acquired Brain Injury. Sponsored by Neuro-Rehab Services Inc.
Many young adults who sustain a brain injury suffer the loss of their social network and become lonely and bored. They would like to go out and enjoy themselves but find it difficult to do so due to a lack of confidence or opportunity, cognitive and/or behavioural issues, diminished social skills, or social anxiety.
Neuro-Rehab Services Inc. has developed an Activity Based Social Skills Group specifically designed to meet the needs of these individuals. The group will consist of 8 to 10 members and will continue for 8 bi-weekly sessions. The first meeting will be held at Neuro-Rehab Services Inc., at which time the group members will meet and collaboratively decide how they would like to spend the following 6 community-based sessions. Activities may include playing pool, bowling, going to a movie or out for dinner. The last session will also be at the Neuro-Rehab Services clinic as a final group get-together to review people’s experiences within the group, and to discuss future plans and goals.
This informal group experience offers individuals 19 to approximately 29 years of age a unique opportunity to connect with their peers, to acquire new social, behavioural, cognitive and leisure skills, to enhance their self esteem and, equally importantly, to have fun.
