SERVICES OFFERED

Speech-Language Pathology

NRS Inc.'s speech-language pathologists help children and adults with brain injuries in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking. Where indicated, speech-language pathologists also assess and treat feeding and swallowing difficulties. Speech-language pathologists also help in the area of pragmatics, or social communication, and with the cognitive skills that underlie communication, such as attention, memory, information processing, organization and verbal reasoning.

The speech-language pathologist will conduct an assessment to identify the areas of difficulty, as well as the person's strengths. The speech-language pathologist will also determine what are the cognitive-communication challenges the person faces at home, school, work, and socially. Following this, the speech-language pathologist, together with the client and family, will develop a treatment program with functional goals.

Speech-language pathologists help people improve their abilities by actively rehabilitating skills, giving them drills and exercises, showing them easier ways to use their skills, and teaching their families, friends, teachers and employers ways to help. Wherever possible, speech-language pathologists use real world activities such as schoolwork, newspapers, job activities, etc. to help clients achieve their potential.
