Dietary Services
There is no substitute for good nutrition, and in fact proper nutrition is a key component of a comprehensive rehabilitation program.
A consult with a Dietitian may be required due to:
- Concerns about adequate and proper nutrition
- Unwanted weight loss or weight gain, especially as can happen post injury: a registered dietitian can suggest additional calorie sources for healthy weight gain, or a restricted-calorie eating plan plus regular physical activity for weight loss while still eating all your favorite foods
- Unwanted change in eating habits
- Development of diabetes, cardiovascular problems or high blood pressure, requiring dietary control
- Development of digestive problems
- Pregnancy: A registered dietitian can help make sure the mom-to-be gets nutrients like folate, especially during the first three months of pregnancy, lowering your newborn’s risk for neural tube or spinal cord defects
- Issues related to breastfeeding your baby: A registered dietitian can provide guidance and can help make sure the new mom is getting enough iron, vitamin D, fluoride and B vitamins for her and her little one
- Eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and uncontrolled constant eating.
- Aging and nutrition issues: A registered dietitian can help with food or drug interaction, proper hydration, special diets for hypertension and changing taste buds as you age.
- A need to eat smarter: A registered dietitian can help sort through misinformation; teach how to read labels at the supermarket; show that healthy cooking is inexpensive; assist with meal planning for “fussy” eaters in the family.
